Media and new forms of expression
Inspired by one of my favorite authors, Julio Cortazar, I decided to use new media to evoke a sense of wonder and encourage imaginative travel. Cortazar's book "Around the Day in Eighty Worlds" pokes fun at reality and explores music, art, and colorful daily monsters. His writing creates opportunities to travel far away with your imagination, seeing everyday life with a creative surrealist eye.
In my reel, I filmed scenes and added filters and audio. I included a question from one of Cortazar's novels, where a character asks why they aren't relaxing at home and listening to music instead of driving on empty North American streets. This contradiction fascinated me and showcases the possibilities of new media for expression.
New media is a neutral tool that offers endless possibilities for creativity. It's up to individuals to explore and give it a purpose, and teachers to provide opportunities for learning and growth.
